Unlike undersized cats of normal proportions, dwarf cats display symptoms of osteochondrodysplasia—genetic disorders of bone and cartilage, typically manifested as noticeably short legs. Since the mid-twentieth century, cat breeds with embedded dwarfism have been developed for commercial sale.
